Hunting in Nepal

Plan hunting expeditions with local context

Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is Nepal's only authorised hunting ground, established in 1987 and spanning 1,325 square kilometres of pristine alpine wilderness in the Dhaulagiri region. Our 14-day expedition is a once-in-a-lifetime wilderness experience combining regulated hunting with high-altitude trekking through some of Nepal's most remote and untouched terrain. The reserve is home to Blue Sheep (Bharal), Himalayan Tahr, Ghoral, Barking Deer, and Wild Boar, with strictly controlled quotas that fund conservation and benefit local communities. The expedition includes experienced local hunting guides, camp staff, all permits and licenses, pack horses for equipment transport, and comfortable tented camps with full catering. Hunters must obtain a license from Nepal's Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation. The hunting season runs from September to March, with peak conditions in October-November.

Navigate Globe compares route quality, season, guide support, transport, and practical timing so you can choose a trip that fits your dates and travel style.

How to choose the right hunting expeditions

Choose the right route

Compare permit quotas, season, physical readiness, camp logistics, species regulations, and guide experience. This keeps the itinerary realistic instead of just attractive on paper.

Match the season

September to March is the main regulated hunting season, with October and November often offering peak conditions.

Plan around safety

Every expedition must follow Nepal's permit, quota, conservation, firearm, and national park regulations.

Best time for hunting expeditions

September to March is the main regulated hunting season, with October and November often offering peak conditions. Exact timing still depends on the region, altitude, activity, road access, and how much flexibility you have.

Spring

March to May

Good mountain visibility and warmer travel conditions.

Autumn

September to November

Often the clearest and most popular season for Nepal travel.

Winter

December to February

Useful for lower altitude routes, cultural trips, and clearer skies.

Monsoon

June to August

Better for selected rain-shadow routes and flexible travelers.

Cost, permits, and support details

Strong category pages should answer the practical booking questions before a visitor opens every package: what changes the price, what paperwork matters, and how the local team keeps the itinerary realistic.

Cost drivers

Final pricing for hunting expeditions depends on duration, route, guide support, transport, accommodation level, season, and private customization.

Permits and documents

Permit, document, park-entry, and activity rules vary by route. We confirm what applies before the itinerary is finalized.

Local support

Our Kathmandu team coordinates guides, transport, accommodation, route timing, and practical changes around local conditions.

Availability and deposits

Private trips, fixed departures, group-joining seats, deposits, and balance dates are checked before a hunting expeditions booking is confirmed.
