Manang Valley & Tilicho Lake Motorbike Expedition

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Thamel. Meet your expedition leader for a comprehensive briefing covering the route, riding conditions, and the Tilicho Lake trek. Review the motorcycles and complete paperwork. Evening welcome dinner with the team and final gear check.

Begin the adventure riding west on the Prithvi Highway, following the scenic Trisuli River through gorges and valleys. Stop at the confluence town of Mugling for lunch. Turn north at Dumre and ride to Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. This is your last taste of smooth tarmac for several days.

The real adventure begins! Leave the paved road behind and enter the Marsyangdi River gorge. The track is narrow, rocky, and crosses several streams. Ride through traditional Gurung villages clinging to steep hillsides. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you climb. Pass through Tal and Dharapani before reaching Chame, the district headquarters of Manang.

Continue the challenging climb through pine forests with improving mountain views. Pass the famous hot springs at Chame and ride through apple orchards. The trail narrows and becomes more technical. Spectacular views of Annapurna II begin to emerge. Reach Upper Pisang, a traditional Tibetan-style village with an ancient monastery perched on the hillside above.

Ride through the increasingly arid landscape of the Manang Valley. The vegetation changes dramatically as you enter the rain shadow of the Annapurna range. Visit the ancient Braga monastery (over 500 years old) with its incredible collection of Buddhist statues. Continue to Manang village, your base for the next three nights. Afternoon acclimatization walk.

Essential rest day for altitude acclimatization before the Tilicho Lake trek. Take a day hike to the Ice Lake (4,600m) or Gangapurna Lake for stunning views and to help your body adjust. Explore Manang village, visit local monasteries, and enjoy the spectacular mountain panorama. Afternoon briefing for the Tilicho Lake trek.

Morning ride on challenging trail to Khangsar village (3,734m) - the last point accessible by motorcycle. Park the bikes and begin trekking to Tilicho Base Camp. The trail climbs through a dramatic landscape of moraines and cliffs with views of Tilicho Peak and the Great Barrier. Reach base camp and rest for the early morning lake trek.

Pre-dawn start for the 4-5 hour trek to Tilicho Lake (4,919m). The trail traverses steep, exposed terrain with breathtaking views. Reach the sacred turquoise lake surrounded by ice-clad peaks - an unforgettable moment. After time at the lake, descend to Khangsar, collect your motorcycles, and ride back to Manang. Celebration dinner!

Begin the descent through the Manang Valley. The return ride offers different perspectives on the incredible landscape you climbed through days before. Enjoy the thrilling downhill sections (carefully!) and take time to photograph the mountain views you might have missed on the way up. Overnight in Chame with hot spring opportunity.

Long but exciting day - descend the rocky gorge trail back to Besisahar, then join the smooth highway for the ride back to Kathmandu. The contrast between the rugged mountain tracks and the tarmac highway is remarkable. Arrive in Kathmandu by evening. Farewell dinner with the team to celebrate your achievement.
