About This Destination

Overview

The Manaslu region, dominated by the world's eighth-highest peak Mount Manaslu (8,163m), offers one of Nepal's most spectacular and challenging treks. The Manaslu Circuit Trek rivals the famous Annapurna Circuit in beauty but sees far fewer trekkers, providing a more authentic and remote Himalayan experience. The trek circles Mount Manaslu through diverse landscapes — from subtropical lowlands to arctic high passes. The route follows ancient salt trading routes and passes through traditional Tibetan villages where Buddhism is a way of life. The highlight is crossing the Larkya La Pass (5,167m), offering breathtaking views of Manaslu, Himlung Himal, and countless other peaks. As a restricted area, the Manaslu region requires special permits and a licensed guide, which helps preserve its pristine environment and authentic culture. The local Nubri and Tsum valleys are particularly notable for their unspoiled Tibetan Buddhist culture. The region is also known for its dramatic gorges, suspension bridges, and the chance to see rare wildlife including the snow leopard and Himalayan tahr in Manaslu Conservation Area.
