About This Destination

Overview

Langtang Valley, often called the "Valley of Glaciers," is one of Nepal's most beautiful and accessible trekking regions. Located just north of Kathmandu, this stunning valley offers dramatic Himalayan scenery, rich Tamang culture, and diverse wildlife within a relatively short trek. The Langtang region was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake, but has since rebuilt and reopened with renewed strength and spirit. The trail passes through the Langtang National Park, home to red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and over 1,000 plant species including the national flower, the rhododendron. The valley is dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,227m), and surrounded by glaciers and snow peaks that create a natural amphitheater of stunning beauty. The Tamang people who inhabit the region have strong Tibetan heritage, visible in their language, dress, and Buddhist monasteries. Popular treks include the Langtang Valley Trek, Gosainkunda Lake Trek, and the challenging Helambu Trek. The region offers a perfect introduction to high-altitude trekking with teahouse accommodation and well-established trails.
